An automatic SPECT processing system was developed in order to extract the parameters of count image which indicates radioactive distribution of a patient. The system is composed of SPECT scanner, image receiver and image processing. It can calculate the count image directly from the radioactivity detected by SPECT scanner. The count image was processed with the program including a number of modules for general processing such as edge enhancement, enhancement of contrast, and filling of topographic defects. Since this system is highly automatic, and can process a large number of count images, it is suitable for processing dynamic and static images as well as images from a laboratory and a clinical SPECT system. To optimize the algorithm of the image processing, the effects of the parameter value were studied by calculating count image from a SPECT phantom and processed by the image processing system. The results indicate that the parameters of the system can be optimized by setting the range of their values.
